SumOf1 LLC runs SumOf1 Math Tutoring. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do and do not do with it. It is written to be read, not to be impressive.
When you enquire or enrol, we collect the parent or guardian's name, email address and mobile number, the student's first name and grade, the subject they need, and any scheduling preferences you tell us.
Once lessons begin we keep a record of sessions attended, what was covered, what the tutor thinks needs work, homework assigned and answered, and payments received. Lessons run on Zoom, and we read the attendance record of your own sessions to know they took place.
We do not sell, rent or trade your mobile number. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Message frequency varies. Families get reminder texts for each scheduled lesson, a short recap after each lesson, billing texts (a bill with a secure pay link at the end of each package cycle, and a thank-you once it's paid), a check-in on package renewal, and occasional updates about a session, such as your tutor running late or a cancellation. If you fill out our contact form as a prospective family, we also text you about booking a free consultation and may follow up if you have not booked yet.

We use your number for scheduling, billing and account updates related to your lessons, and for consultation booking if you are a prospective family. We do not send marketing or promotional texts.
Only the services we need to run lessons, and only what they need:
We do not sell your information to anyone, for any purpose. We do not run advertising on it. If we are ever legally required to hand something over, we will tell you unless we are barred from doing so.
We tutor children, so some of what we hold is about a minor. We collect it from the parent or guardian who enrols them, not from the child, and we keep it to what teaching requires: a first name, a grade, sessions, homework and a tutor's notes on their progress. A parent can ask to see all of it, correct it, or have it deleted, and we will do that.
Parents and students sign in to a portal to see upcoming lessons, homework and session notes. One login serves the household, so anyone with it sees everything on the account. Tell us if you need that changed.
We keep session and payment records for as long as the law requires us to, which for tax purposes is several years. Everything else we keep while you are a client and for a reasonable period after, so that a family returning after a break does not start from nothing. Ask us to delete it and we will, except where we are required to keep it.
Data is held on a private server, reachable only over encrypted connections, and backed up nightly. Passwords are hashed and never stored in a form anyone can read back. No system is perfect, and we will tell you promptly if anything happens that affects you.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change matters to you we will tell you rather than relying on you to notice.
